BOSTON — The Bruins are 2-0-0 in the Marco Sturm era.
Boston earned a 4-3 overtime win against the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night in its home opener at TD Garden.
Fraser Minten scored the game-winner for the Bruins in a back-and-forth battle between the Original Six teams.
Boston also got goals from from Casey Mittelstadt, Tanner Jeannot and Elias Lindholm in the win.
Boston got some offense from its second line 3:53 into the game when Mittelstadt poked the puck home thanks to a nice backcheck from Pavel Zacha and Viktor Arvidsson using his speed to help create the scoring chance.
The Blackhawks tied it five minutes later when they capitalized on a Nikita Zadorov turnover to make it 1-1 on Connor Bedard’s first goal of the season.
Before the first period came to an end, Hampus Lindholm left the game after just six shifts, and was ruled out with a lower-body injury.
The Blackhawks took their first lead of the game 2:20 into the second period on a Louis Crevier snipe that beat Joonas Korpisalo glove side.
But Jeannot tied the game at 2-2 when he buried a rebound for his fist goal as a Bruin.
The Bruins went on a two-man advantage at the end of the second that carried into the third, and it took Elias Lindholm just 15 seconds to capitalize when he tapped in a Zacha pass.
The lead was short-lived, though, as Andre Burakovsky made it 3-3 with a goal from the high slot two minutes later.
Tempers flared in front of Boston’s net with 8:15 left that resulted with Zadorov, Sean Kuraly, Frank Nazar and Artyom Levshunov in the box — who all received two-minute minors for roughing.
Boston went on the power play with 2:42 left and the game tied at 3-3, but was unable to capitalize and the game went into overtime.
Minten sent Bruins fans home happy with the game-winner 2:10 into overtime.
The Bruins return to action Saturday night when they host the Buffalo Sabres at 7 p.m.
