Estevao Willian has just opened the scoring for Brazil against South Korea. Bruno Guimaraes played him in with a superb pass and the winger timed his run perfectly, bending it behind the full back to stay onside and then finishing calmly first time.
It’s already his second senior goal for the Selecao. Manager Carlo Ancelotti has already shown great faith in the youngster and is being rewarded. If he carries on like this, he will be starting at the World Cup next summer.

Brazil appearances helping Estevao develop
It’s clear from Enzo Maresca’s actions as manager so far that he intends to introduce Estevao slowly to first team action.
His first start came when Cole Palmer pulled out during the warmup against West Ham, and other options like Alejandro Garnacho weren’t yet up to speed in terms of fitness.
When his second chance to start came, against Man U, it was still really because Maresca wasn’t happy that the other options were yet up to speed. That appearance lasted only a few minutes before Robert Sanchez’s red card meant the winger was sacrificed.
His latest showing – against Liverpool to score the winner at the weekend – came off the bench.
With the likes of Garnacho now fit, Maresca will likely continue introducing the Brazilian wonderkid slowly with sub appearances in the league and starts in the cups. So these Brazil games aren’t a chore like they would be with most of our first team – they’re an important part of Estevao’s development, offering him minutes he won’t necessarily get week in week out with our first team.
