A member of the midfield ranks at La Liga champions Barcelona has on Friday been forced to pull out of national team duty with Spain.
The player in question? Dani Olmo.
The name of attacking midfielder Olmo has of course emerged as a prominent one in the media headlines across Spain today.
This comes after word was forthcoming that the former RB Leipzig standout was struggling for fitness.
Speaking during a press conference this morning, Luis de la Fuente revealed:
“He hasn’t trained all week, he came in tired, with some discomfort. Today he wasn’t feeling comfortable and we’ve told him to stop training. He’s gone to get some tests.”
And the tests in question have since confirmed the news which those back in Barcelona were no doubt dreading.
As per a statement across the Spanish national team’s website and social media platforms:
‘Dani Olmo will miss the match against Georgia in Elche and Bulgaria in Valladolid due to injury. The player arrived at the training camp last Monday with signs of muscle fatigue, as reported by FC Barcelona. Since then, his symptoms have gradually improved with treatment and training regimens. Therefore, today, the forward was scheduled to participate exclusively in a portion of his scheduled training session, where he reported muscle discomfort in his left leg.
‘Therefore, he has undergone further testing and has been diagnosed with a muscle injury, which has been reported to FC Barcelona’s medical services. The player will begin his recovery at the national team’s training camp and will return to Barcelona tomorrow when the rest of the team travels to Elche to face the Georgian national team.’
