Former Wimbledon finalist Sabine Lisicki plans to return to tennis even though she has delayed her comeback from maternity leave.
"I didn't think twice about ending my career because of my pregnancy. I want to end my career on my own terms and at a time that feels right for me," Lisicki said in an interview with publishing house RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland on Friday.
"My career should not be decided by external circumstances. I just want to feel that it's the right time. I think you can sense that."
Lisicki, 36, had originally planned to return this week at a WTA125 event on the Spanish island of Mallorca but withdrew on short notice because she doesn't feel ready yet.
She would not give a new date, saying: "I am ambitious and I push myself, and then we will see when the right time for my comeback is."
"I breastfed for a whole year. I didn't realise how much energy breastfeeding takes," she said.
Lisicki gave birth to a daughter in September 2024. She was a Wimbledon finalist in 2013, losing to French player Marion Bartoli, has four WTA titles and a career-high ranking of 12.
