MONTGOMERY, Ala.– If there was any doubts about Phenix City Central‘s dominance in the state of Alabama, they answered those and then some on Friday night at the Cramton Bowl.

After being tied at 14-all in the second quarter, the Red Devils (7-1) went on a 44-7 run to go on and defeat the Montgomery Carver Wolverines, 58-35. For Phenix City Central, it’s the second straight victory over Carver, with the Red Devils beating the Wolverines, 31-26, last season.

Phenix City Central junior running back Jerry Woodhouse led the way via the ground game, carrying the rock 12 times for 228 yards and scoring three touchdowns.

What proved to be the difference between the teams was the turnover department, as Carver (5-2) coughed up the ball nearly a half dozen times on the evening.

As the teams entered halftime, the Red Devils tacked on a field goal from Jack Ciancio to head into intermission ahead 37-21. It was what happened after halftime that turned the contest upside down.

The Red Devils right out of the gates scored on a long touchdown run by Woodhouse and the rout was on from there. Phenix City Central would score 21 unanswered points before Carver finally got on the scoreboard again in the second half.

Phenix City Central is back on the road next week when they face Opelika and Carver takes on Auburn in an away tilt.
