Bayern Eye Murillo as Transfer Race Heats Up

Bayern Munich are rarely quiet in the market for long and BILD have now put a fresh name on their agenda. According to the BILD, the German champions have identified Nottingham Forest defender Murillo as a serious target. The 23 year old Brazilian has been one of Forest’s standout performers since arriving from Corinthians São Paulo in 2023 for €12 million.

High Price and High Interest

BILD’s deputy head of football Tobias Altschäffl outlined the scale of the operation: “He has a market value of €55 million. So, a really expensive player. He’s a name that’s interesting for Bayern. But it would cost money, and first they would have to sell players or not be able to extend their contracts.” That suggests Bayern would need a defensive reshuffle before any move could materialise.

Christian Falk of BILD added further intrigue, “Exciting player, a bit under the weather at the moment. Real Madrid already tried to sign him once when Éder Militão was injured. And they immediately extended Murillo’s contract. That was in January; he has a new contract until 2029 with no release clause. So, as you say, it won’t be cheap. And Chelsea are also said to have him on their list.”

Why Murillo Appeals

Murillo’s statistics speak for themselves. 80 appearances already for Forest across all competitions, two goals from centre back, and five starts in ten games so far this term. His composure under pressure has drawn comparisons to Marquinhos in his early PSG days. One Bundesliga source is reported to have said, “Bayern want a defender who can progress the ball without fear. Murillo ticks that box.”

Forest, for their part, are under no financial pressure to sell. Another Premier League insider summarised the situation neatly, “Forest will only do business at Premier League prices, not Bundesliga discounts.”

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

Forest fans will read this with a mixture of pride and panic. Pride because their club have unearthed yet another gem from the Brazilian market. Panic because Bayern interest usually ends one way. What makes this situation fascinating is the lack of a release clause. That hands full negotiating power to Forest. They could demand €70 million or more and still defend the decision to supporters.

Chelsea’s presence in the conversation raises eyebrows too. They already have more centre backs than seats on the team bus. If they are genuinely circling, it means Murillo is viewed as elite level. Bayern sniffing around is one thing, but if it turns into a Premier League bidding war then buckle in. One fan put it bluntly in a forum, “If Bayern want him, pay Premier League prices or jog on.”

Expect Forest to hold firm. Expect Bayern to test that resolve. And if Chelsea get involved properly, expect chaos.
