Ibrahima Konaté (26) is set to leave Didier Deschamps’ France camp and return to Liverpool, according to L’Equipe. The Liverpool centre-back was an unused substitute on Friday’s FIFA World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan, and he’ll take no part as well for Monday’s away game against Iceland. Konaté reported to Clairefontaine this week with a quadriceps injury that was not deemed serious.
Konaté missed several training sessions with France, although he trained as usual on Thursday with his France teammates. The centre-back is the second Les Bleus player to throw in the towel for Monday’s tie against Iceland, given Kylian Mbappé has also pulled out of the camp.
To compensate for Konaté’s exit, Didier Deschamps has called up Marseille’s Benjamin Pavard, according to Le Parisien.
