Lorenzo Styles Jr. among season-high number of Ohio State players unavailable vs Illinois

Ohio State will be without Lorenzo Styles Jr. in Illinois, but will have Kenyatta Jackson Jr., despite his injury vs Minnesota.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Ohio State defensive players Lorenzo Styles Jr. and Eddrick Houston are unavailable for the Oct. 11 game at No. 17 Illinois.

Styles, who's the Buckeyes’ starting nickel back, has appeared in all five games this season, but missed the second half of the Ohio game on Sept. 20 with an apparent upper-body injury.

It is unclear whether Styles is dealing with the same injury, as no information was disclosed for any of the 11 players listed as out on the game-day availability report submitted to the conference.

Ohio State Buckeyes cornerback Lorenzo Styles Jr. (3) is helped off the field by trainers during the second half of the NCAA football game against the Ohio Bobcats at Ohio Stadium on Sept. 13, 2025. Ohio State won 37-9.

Houston, a sophomore, had also appeared in all five games and recorded starts at defensive tackle in the opening two games.

The Buckeyes will have Kenyatta Jackson Jr. available at defensive end despite the redshirt junior exiting in the first quarter of the Minnesota game on Oct. 4 with an undisclosed injury.

In the days leading up to the Illinois game, Ohio State coach Ryan Day stated, “there’s definitely a chance” Jackson would be back on the field to face the Illini.

Ohio State Buckeyes defensive end Kenyatta Jackson Jr. (97) pressures Washington Huskies quarterback Demond Williams Jr. (2) during the second half of the NCAA football game at Husky Stadium in Seattle on Sept. 27, 2025. Ohio State won 24-6.

Who is unavailable for Ohio State against Illinois?

Along with Styles and Houston, tight end Max LeBlanc, quarterback Mason Maggs, defensive tackles Eric Mensah and Ahmed Toukara, receivers Bryson Rodgers and Preston Wolfe, running back Anthony Rogers, defensive lineman Maxwell Roy and safety DeShawn Stewart are listed as out.

Linebacker Brenten Jones and defensive lineman Jason Moore are available after missing the Minnesota game, with this being the first game Jones is available for this season.
