Matt Law was on the London is Blue podcast this week with some really interesting takes on a few subjects.

He touched on the form of Joao Pedro, who started so brightly for the Blues after signing in the summer but has now faded badly.

“Cooked” JP needs a break says law

“Joao Pedro has looked cooked in the last few games, absolutely cooked. He’s been a shadow of what he looked like at the very start of the season,” Law said.

“Running him out there at half speed is not a great option. Surely he’s going to need some rest to be fit and competitive to play in the big games.

“You’d be very surprised if he didn’t get a bit more [rest] in the upcoming games.”

This two week rest should do him good. He’s had to play way too many minutes already because of a lack of other options up top for us. Hopefully a break without going on Brazil duty has done him good, and he can return next week looking as good against Nottingham Forest as he did in the Club World Cup.

The eventual return of Cole Palmer should help massively too – we need the pair of them working on their connection and developing that understanding as soon as possible.

Chelsea need to add third string to their bow

Liam Delap’s injury has deprived us of a key option tactically, but has also massively increased the load on JP. That’s why it was a really damaging one, and we need him back as soon as possible.

A trusted third choice striker in the squad is absolutely essential – Marc Guiu doesn’t look to be that. Emanuel Emegha can’t come soon enough.
