Cycling superstar Tadej Pogačar won Il Lombardia for a fifth straight season on Saturday, the last of the cycling year's five Monument races.

The one-day Tour of Lombardy, the Italian region around Milan, took place over 241 kilometres from Como to Bergamo. The four-time and reigning Tour de France champion triumphed yet again - just weeks after retaining his world title.

The Slovenian won by 1 minute 48 seconds from Belgian Remco Evenepoel. He equalled the record of Italian Fausto Coppi, who however did not win his five all in a row.

The other one-day Monument races are Milan-San Remo, Tour of Flanders, Paris–Roubaix and Liège–Bastogne–Liège. Pogačar also won in Flanders and Liege this year with Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel sealing the other two.
