Jackson (Mo.) three-star defensive lineman Brysen Wessell has been committed to Iowa State since June, but an offer last month from the in-state Missouri Tigers shook things up in his recruitment.
Wessell took a visit to Columbia soon after, and he has now flipped his commitment from the Cyclones to the Tigers. Eli Drinkwitz and offensive line coach Brandon Jones see him as a interior mauler on the offensive side of the ball instead of on defense.
And the chance to play for his home-state school ended up being too good to pass up.
“It definitely means a lot,” Wessell told Rivals last month. “It’s crazy to think that the offer came, and it’s one that I’ve thought about growing up. So it’s crazy that I actually have that now. It’s cool to see all my work paying off now in that way.”
The 6-foot-3, 275-pounder took a visit to Missouri where he saw the Tigers win over South Carolina. Now, he is expected to be back the weekend of November 8 when they host Texas A&M.
Wessell is the No. 649 overall prospect and No. 68 defensive lineman in the 2026 class, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting services.
Rivals, though is a bit higher on him than other services. In the most recent rankings update, he was tabbed as the No. 51 defensive lineman nationally. He is also a standout on the track, finishing 9th in the discus throw at Missouri’s Class 5A championships last year.
Wessell is also one of the Show-Me State’s top heavyweight wrestlers. As a junior, he was the No. 1 seed entering the Class 4 state tournament, ultimately finishing in 4th place.
