A few months into the new season, one of the highlights for Barcelona has been the shakeup in the number nine position.
Indeed, coach Hansi Flick has shuffled his options in the offensive unit, with Ferran Torres emerging as the club’s main striker, ahead of Robert Lewandowski.
Lewandowski’s starting role in doubt ahead of El Clasico
According to MARCA, Lewandowski’s starting role at Barcelona could be in doubt heading into this month’s El Clasico against Real Madrid.
This comes on the back of the Polish international’s declining physical performance, which is coupled with his minimal participation in the starting eleven.
The veteran forward, in fact, has started only three league games for Barcelona this season, falling behind Ferran in the pecking order.

His decline in performances has led to Hansi Flick putting more faith in options such as Ferran and even Marcus Rashford, both of whom are delivering strong performances.
Ferran, for one, has looked like a much-improved player this season and has already racked up four goals this season.
Rashford, on the other hand, has been in impressive form and was one of the few players who impressed in the recent defeat to Sevilla.
All of these factors have put pressure on Lewandowski, whose future at Barcelona is now in doubt, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
Barcelona, for their part, have already started looking out for a new number nine, with Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy emerging as one of the potential targets.
The upcoming game against Girona, therefore, could prove to be important for Lewandowski as he looks to regain his form and make a strong case for a start against Real Madrid later this month.
