Liverpool spent £450m in the summer transfer window upgrading their 2024/25 Premier League title-winning squad.

We saw the club’s sporting director Richard Hughes break the British transfer record twice - first in a deal for Florian Wirtz that could reach £116m and again in a £125m deal for Alexander Isak.

The Reds didn’t stop there however with other improvements made to the squad in goal, defence and up front. But one sector which didn’t get any attention in the market was central midfield.

Although the Reds have been linked with the likes of Mikel Jauregizar, Samuele Ricci and others, Arne Slot has largely got the same options available to him this season as he did in the last campaign.

Adam Wharton attracting a lot of attention

A lot is going to be asked again from Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo. And it would be no surprise to see the Anfield club move for a new, promising midfielder in transfer windows upcoming.

One of the names most prominently linked with a Merseyside move is Adam Wharton - the England midfielder currently starring for Crystal Palace.

Under contract until 2029, the 21-year-old joined the Eagles from Blackburn in February 2024 - going from strength to strength since moving to London. The FA Cup-winning schemer is already on the radar for most of England’s top clubs - as well as Real Madrid.

A new report in Football Insider now confirms that Liverpool are among the teams interested in Wharton - who is nonetheless under no rush to leave Selhurst Park.

Reds want 'revelation' Wharton

“Obviously he’s got just under four years left on his deal at Selhurst Park right now until 2029,” the report reads.

“It doesn’t seem he’s in any real massive rush to leave Palace right now, he’s enjoying his football and playing week in, week out in the Premier League.

“He has become a key man in Glasner’s side with Palace doing so well at the moment, having won the FA Cup last year and playing in Europe.

“It seems Wharton is happy with life at Selhurst Park, but his form and performances will attract interest from other clubs.

“Liverpool, Manchester United are admirers, Manchester City, Chelsea, Spurs, and even Real Madrid have all been linked with Wharton.

“He’s been a revelation since his move to Selhurst Park and it’s not surprise these elite European clubs are all having a look at him.”

The midfielder has already racked up over 50 appearances for Palace and earned a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024.
