Liverpool Are Set To Rival Real Madrid For This Crystal Palace Midfielder: Decent Fit For Slot?

In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Liverpool are set to rival Real Madrid for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton. It has been claimed that the Reds are keen on recruiting the English talent next year.

Wharton’s Good Run Of Form In The Premier League

Wharton has enjoyed a good run of form at the London club during this campaign after he produced a string of impressive displays for them in the middle of the park. The 21-year-old has participated in ten matches for the Eagles this season, securing one assist in the process across all competitions.

The English midfield ace has given a good account of himself at the centre of the park and has done well to make six tackles, five blocks, six interceptions and five clearances in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from midfield, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 78.4% in the English top tier (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at Selhurst Park will expire in the summer of 2029. Therefore, the Reds would have to launch a convincing offer if they are serious about winning the race for Wharton’s services next year.

Is Wharton A Decent Fit For Liverpool?

Wharton is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and is an accurate passer of the ball as well.

The English sensation is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also fill in as a defensive midfielder if needed. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League and won’t take much time to settle into life at Liverpool.

We can expect Wharton to bring more bite and steel to Arne Slot’s midfield. He is good enough to fight for a regular first-team spot at the Merseyside club in the coming years.

At 21, Wharton has got a bright future ahead of him as long as he continues to improve with each season. He would also help the Reds compete across all fronts in the future. Therefore, Wharton would be a good fit for Liverpool’s needs in the long run.
