Aaron Morris was immobilized and taken off the field in an ambulance on Saturday afternoon.
Stanford cornerback Aaron Morris is OK after a scary incident that resulted in him being immobilized and taken off the field in a stretcher during the Cardinal’s matchup with SMU on Saturday.
Morris went down in the first quarter of Stanford’s 34-10 loss to SMU at Gerald Ford Stadium when he was trying to cover a deep pass down the sidelines from Mustangs quarterback Keivn Jennings. Morris and linebacker Sam Mattingly tried to tackle wide receiver Jordan Hudson, but Morris went down awkwardly after a big hit.
He remained down on the field for quite some time. His facemask was removed and he was immobilized, placed on a stretcher and taken off the field in an ambulance. He was moving his arms and legs at the time, a Stanford spokesperson said at the time. The program then announced during the second half that Morris was on his way back from the hospital to rejoin the team.
“Aaron Morris has cleared all precautionary tests and is returning to be with the team for the conclusion of the SMU matchup,” the school said.
Morris is in his third year at Stanford this fall. He entered Saturday’s game with five total tackles. Further specifics on his injury or how long he'll be sidelined, if at all, are not yet known.
SMU put up 17 unanswered points to start the contest on Saturday while rolling to the 24-point win. Kevin Jennings went 22-of-30 for 247 yards with two touchdowns for the Mustangs, and Chris Johnson put up 96 yards and a score on five carries. They now sit at 4-2 on the season.
Ben Gulbranson went 22-of-40 for 278 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the loss for Stanford. CJ Williams had 109 yards and a score on seven catches, too. The Cardinal hold a 2-4 record entering next week’s contest against No. 25 Florida State.
