Penn State quarterback Drew Allar’s college career came to an abrupt end Saturday after suffering a season-ending ankle injury in a 22-21 loss to Northwestern at Beaver Stadium.
The senior signal-caller went down late in the fourth quarter while scrambling on a third down play with the Nittany Lions trailing by one. He was on the sideline before being carted to the locker room. Penn State head coach James Franklin confirmed after the game that Allar will miss the rest of the season, bringing his college career to an end as well.
Allar’s injury capped a stunning collapse for Penn State, which has lost three straight games after being ranked No. 3 in the country just three weeks ago. The Nittany Lions’ defeats to Oregon, UCLA and Northwestern have dropped them out of playoff contention and cast a shadow over the final weeks of their season.
Allar bypassed the 2025 NFL Draft to return for his senior year and started all six games this fall. He passed for 1,100 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions while leading Penn State to a 3-3 record.
Over his four-year career in Happy Valley, Allar threw for 7,539 yards and 61 touchdowns across 46 games. He added 757 rushing yards and 13 scores on the ground. Because this was his final year of eligibility, Allar is not eligible for a medical redshirt.
With his college career officially over, Allar’s next step will be preparing for the 2026 NFL Draft, where he’s expected to draw attention from many teams.
