Red Raiders quarterback Behren Morton left the Texas Tech football home gameagainst Kansas in the second quarter, a series after he was sacked with the pass rusher landing on his lower leg.

Redshirt freshman Will Hammond replaced Morton.

Defensive end Leroy Harris III sacked Morton on a third down from the Kansas 19-yard line at 11:23 before halftime. Morton's ankle twisted underneath Harris' weight in the game Saturday, Oct. 11, at Jones AT&T Stadium. Morton got up to his knees and angrily pounded his hand into the turf several times, feeling the pain.

Upton Bellenfant came in to kick a field goal and, with the Tech defense on the field, he took a seat on the sideline alongside Tech offensive coordinator. Moments later, however, he went with Tech medical staff members to the Dustin R. Womble Football Center.

Tech went three-and-out on its first series with Hammond, the backup throwing incomplete on second and third downs. Hammond was intercepted on the Red Raiders' next possession.

It's the third game this season that Morton has left with an injury. In the Red Raiders' season opener, Arkansas-Pine Bluff safety-outside linebacker Tayvon Hardwick came off the edge and hit Morton low, tweaking his right lower right leg.

In the Big 12 opener at Utah, Morton was scrambling for yardage when linebacker Johnathan Hall came in low to secure the tackle. Hall's shoulder hit Morton's head, which then hit the Rice-Eccles Stadium turf. Hammond played the second half of that game, leading the Red Raiders to a 34-10 victory, and Morton later cleared concussion protocol.

No. 10 Texas Tech went into Saturday's game with a 5-0 record, including 2-0 in the Big 12. Kansas came in with a 4-2 and a 2-1 record.
