The Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions will meet at Arrowhead Stadium for a pivotal 'Sunday Night Football' matchup in Week 6.

While both teams have shown flashes of brilliance in the 2025 regular season, the 2-3 Chiefs are looking to find their rhythm as the 4-1 Lions are endeavoring to separate themselves as one of the top teams in the NFL.

Tonight's primetime matchup will pit two exceptionally talented teams against each other in front of a national audience, and could truly result in a win for either side.

The Kansas City Chiefs return home for a much-anticipated matchup with the streaking Detroit Lions. The Chiefs are seeking a chance to even their early record after Monday’s loss to Jacksonville, but they will have their work cut out for them against one of the best teams in the league.

Patrick Mahomes will need his offensive line to continue their promising play over the last three games against a pass-rush-happy Lions defense. Detroit’s secondary is banged up, so Chiefs wide receivers should win their matchups against reserve players in the secondary. Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco will need to build off their solid performances in Week 5.

Chris Jones has had a tumultuous week following his late-game moment of poor judgment. He will be motivated to make positive plays against an explosive Lions offense that will likely feature a consistent run game. The potential matchup between Trent McDuffie and Amon-Ra St. Brown will be a must-see, as the game could swing either way depending on efficiency.

Final score: Chiefs 35, Lions 28

Kansas City's on-field display last week was reminiscent of the pre-Mahomes-era Chiefs. The reigning AFC champions jumped out to an early two-score lead, but were unable to compete defensively with Jacksonville in the second half.

A matchup with one of the league's best offenses does not bode well for Kansas City. The Chiefs' secondary will face one of its biggest tests against veteran quarterback Jared Goff. Mahomes and company should be able to handle Detroit's defense, but Goff is a master of his craft and will most likely be able to navigate anything defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo throws his way.

Final score: Chiefs 34, Lions 27

John Dillon's prediction

Kansas City has been so inconsistent to start the 2025 regular season, and I have a hard time believing that the Chiefs will be able to fix their dysfunction against a truly competent opponent like the Lions. The only thing that the reigning AFC champions have going for them is that this 'Sunday Night Football' matchup will be played at Arrowhead Stadium, where the home crowd may be able to affect Detroit's offense enough to induce a few penalties.

As always, this game will come down to whether Patrick Mahomes can put Kansas City on his back to singlehandedly lift the Chiefs to victory. I expect Kansas City's defense to struggle against Lions quarterback Jared Goff and Detroit's gritty ground game. In the end, I'm predicting a close loss, which will see the Chiefs' record drop to 2-4.

Final score: Chiefs 18, Lions 22
