Studs and duds from Broncos' 13-11 win vs. Jets in London

The Broncos' defense carried the day against the Jets in London. Here are the studs and duds from the win.

The Denver Broncos bid farewell to England, escaping with a narrow 13-11 win over the New York Jets. Denver now flies back to the mountains to host the New York Giants in Week 7. Before that matchup at Empower Field at Mile High, here's a look at the studs and duds from the win in London.

Stud: Defense

The Broncos' defense continued its elite form, sacking Jets quarterback Justin Fields nine times. Yep, you read that right: nine times. The biggest sack of the day sealed the game, as Jonathon Cooper swarmed Fields, wrapping him up on fourth down with less just over a minute left. Now on pace to get 85 sacks this season, the Broncos' defense is on track to shatter the NFL's single-season sack record held by the 1985 Chicago Bears (72 sacks in 16 games).

Dud: Special teams

If it wasn’t for the elite Broncos defense, special teams very nearly cost Denver the game. Jeremy Crawshaw punted six times, most of them booming efforts, but the Broncos’ kickoff unit was horrific. The unit gave up several big plays on special teams, including a 72-yard return. The unit has come under scrutiny in recent weeks, with a few muffed punts, a leverage penalty on a game-winning kick and now kickoff coverage.

Stud: Evan Engram

Engram is now turning into the Joker that coach Sean Payton envisioned when they signed the big tight end at the start of free agency. Engram caught five passes for 55 Yards and even ran an end-around for seven yards. Engram figures to mix it up with the offense in the coming weeks as the Broncos face the Giants, Cowboys, Raiders and Chiefs next.

Dud: Rushing attack

Payton wrote “Run it!!!!” In bold letters at the top of the play sheet again, but the run game was completely stuffed by the Jets' front. The Broncos only had 78 yards total on 26 carries, averaging 3.0 yards per carry. The Broncos' run game usually dictates how effective the pass game will be.

Dud: Matt Peart

Making his first start of the season in place of the injured Ben Powers, guard Matt Peart struggled mightily. Peart had three penalties, including two that negated big plays. Peart will have to improve his play quickly or risk losing his spot to someone else like Calvin Throckmorton.

Overall stud: Broncos' win streak

The Broncos got past one of the most difficult stretches in their schedule with a 3-1 record. With wins over the shorthanded Cincinnati Bengals, the reeling Philadelphia Eagles and the Jets across the pond, it was a three-game stretch over 13 days. The Broncos are now set to host the Giants in Denver, becoming the first team in NFL history to play a game in the Mountain Time Zone a week after playing in London.
