Rangers Eye Ambitious Swoop For This In-demand Attacking Prospect: Why He Could Challenge Gassama On The Flank

In one of his recent posts on X, transfer expert Rudy Galetti has shared an update on Sani Suleiman, the AS Trenčín winger, who has emerged as a transfer target for the Glasgow Rangers. But they are not alone in the race, with Bayer Leverkusen and other top European teams also keeping close tabs on the Nigerian winger.

Having progressed through the youth ranks of Wikki Academy back in his homeland, Suleiman joined Akwa United last year and enjoyed a blistering spell with 11 goals in 19 appearances for the Promise Keepers. Trenčín snapped him up in July 2024, and the teenager has so far featured 30 times for the Slovak side across competitions.

While he is still attuning to European football, his flair, pace, swift runs, dribbles, and creative spark down the wing have caught the eyes of the Light Blues scouts. Primarily right-footed, Suleiman prefers to operate from the left as an inverted winger. But he has exhibited his expertise with both feet, thus offering flexibility as a right-sided attacker.

With 2 goals and 1 assist in 5 league games, the youngster has made an early impression in the 2025-26 campaign, and the glimpses he has showcased might earn him a high-profile transfer in the coming days. Young talents from Africa have ruled Europe in recent years, and Suleiman, one of the rising prospects from Nigeria, could now follow the footsteps of his compatriots.

Why Rangers Should Step Up The Chase

Rangers are going through turmoil even after the change of ownership, followed by Russell Martin’s appointment as the new boss. The club had its worst run during his 123-day reign, and the management has yet to figure out his successor despite being close to bringing Steven Gerrard back, before the Liverpool legend turned down a dramatic return to Ibrox.

The Light Blues had a busy summer, as they tied down 13 new names following a mass exodus. However, the majority of new signings have failed to deliver in their respective roles, and Kevin Thelwell, the Gers’ Sporting Director, must rectify this situation in the upcoming transfer windows.

Although the focus must be on attracting renowned names to solve the crisis before it becomes too late, scouting and recruiting emerging prodigies are also crucial to a club’s growth and stability in the long run. While the interest of Leverkusen is far from fascinating, Rangers could still grab his immediate attention with assured minutes as the understudy to Djeidi Gassama.
