The won't have linebacker Fred Warner for a long time after he suffered a gruesome ankle injury during the Week 6 game against the .
The injury occurred in the first half of the contest and Warner had to be carted off the field, which was the first sign something was seriously wrong.
We pretty much already knew what injury he had suffered after watching the ugly replay, but we have since been given an exact answer.
Here's the latest update coming from The Athletic's Dianna Russini.
Fred Warner injury diagnosis
According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, Warner has suffered a dislocated right ankle and is set to meet with doctors to determine how much time he's going to be out.
"NEWS: 49ers LB Fred Warner suffered a dislocated right ankle Sunday vs. the Buccaneers, per source," Russini reported. "San Francisco’s All-Pro linebacker will meet with doctors to determine how much time he will miss."
As we suspected, Warner's injury will be season-ending.
Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin suffered a dislocated ankle in October of last season and didn't return to action until Week 4 of 2025, just to give an idea of how long Warner could be out.
Now, the attention turns to how the Niners will try and fill the gaping void left by Warner, who is the second star player to suffer a significant injury, along with edge rusher Nick Bosa, who suffered a season-ending torn ACL in Week 3.
Unfortunately for the Niners, general manager John Lynch won't be able to fully replace his two star defenders, barring major blockbuster trades.
However, he's got to do something with the Niners looking like a playoff contender, at worst, in 2025.
