Everton are hoping to pip their noses in front of a host of other sides vying for Joshua Zirkzee’s signature.
Indeed, the Manchester United forward is expected to push to leave in the January transfer window after playing a reduced role since the season began
Ruben Amorim and club chiefs will reportedly do their utmost to keep hold of Zirkzee. However, he certainly has every right to try and facilitate a move elsewhere, having been utilised sparingly by Amorim.

In 2025/2026 thus far, Zirkzee has yet to start a game in any of United’s opening seven Premier League fixtures or their second-round Carabao Cup tie away to Grimsby Park in late August.
The fact that the Reds were knocked out of the competition that night confirmed there’d be even fewer opportunities for the attacker to feature, with Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo all ranking above him in the pecking order up top.
Zirkzee has been deployed only three times in the league, whilst also being made to watch on from the bench as an unused substitute for four matches. As a result, he has accumulated only 74 minutes of action on the pitch.
It’s thought his desire to depart stems from his hopes of being called up to represent the Netherlands at the 2026 World Cup. He has six caps to his name already, but hasn’t taken to the turf since November 2024 in an international outing.
What one journo is hearing about Zirkzee interest
“If there is a green light for Zirkzee to leave Man United in January, I’m sure a lot of clubs will be in for him,” said Pete O’Rourke, via Football Insider.
“It’s obvious he was going to struggle for minutes this season, he’s got Benjamin Sesko ahead of him as the preferred number nine with Cunha and Mbeumo as the alternatives.
“Obviously, the player himself is frustrated at his lack of opportunities this season and he could push for a move away in January if those minutes don’t improve.
“There’s always been interest from Italy, with the likes of Juventus and Como because of the success he had in Serie A before his move to Man United
“Everton, again, another club maybe where the likes of Beto and Barry haven’t set the world alight just yet and they’ve failed to hold down a starting spot.
“So I expect they’ll be looking at somebody like Zirkzee as well when the January window opens.
“I’m sure there’d be a number of clubs who would be interested in him if Manchester United do reluctantly let him leave in January.”
