The 31-year-old last renewed terms with the Merseyside club in 2023, which runs to June 2027.

But they are keen to secure his future beyond 2027 and have now reached a breakthrough in talks with the experienced goalkeeper.

This comes after the Toffees extended the contracts of James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite until 2028 and 2030 respectively.

They are also looking to address the futures of James Garner and Vitaliy Mykolenko, with the duo set to be out of a deal at the end of the campaign.

Pickford joined Everton from Sunderland in 2017 for a then British record £30 million for a goalkeeper.

The fee invested to sign him has proved to be the finest piece of business for the club as he has been a consistent starter in goal since arriving.

Pickford made his 300th Premier League appearance for Everton in last weekend’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.

He has earned 91 clean sheets in 326 matches across all competitions, and was named the Blues’ Player of the Season four times.

The 31-year-old has also been England’s first-choice goalkeeper over the last seven years, with 79 appearances to his name.

Everton sit eighth in the league standings after seven games and they will face Manchester City away at the Etihad Stadium next weekend.
