The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were holding their breath after wide receiver Emeka Egbuka exited the Week 6 game against the San Francisco 49ers early.
Egbuka wasn't on the field for the start of the second half and the team later said he was dealing with a hamstring injury and was doubtful to return. Egbuka was later ruled out.
Egbuka's injury is just the latest among a slew of them the Buccaneers are dealing with. Chris Godwin and Mike Evans were both out due to injury on Sunday, and Tampa still has Jalen McMillan on injured reserve.
It goes without saying the Bucs can ill-afford to lose their rookie phenom, who has stepped up massively for the offense as everyone around him gets injured.
Here's what we know about Egbuka's injury right now.
Emeka Egbuka injury update
According to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, Egbuka's injury isn't thought to be a long-term issue, but he still has to do an MRI to determine the full extent and there remains a chance he could miss time.
"Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the injury currently isn’t believed to be serious. However, the full details will be determined via an MRI. Based on the results of the imaging, Emeka could miss time," Florio reported.
Well, it's good news that Egbuka isn't going to be out long term, but clearly there's a chance he isn't in the lineup for Week 7 or longer.
As far as this week is concerned, the Bucs have a game on Monday night against the Detroit Lions, so that gives Egbuka an extra day to get right.
If Egbuka is forced to miss multiple games, the Bucs do have a bye in Week 9, so that will give him an extra week to recover without missing another game.
Bucs head coach Todd Bowles will address the media on Monday, so we should get an official update from the team then. We'd also expect to get some kind of update from one of the NFL insiders soon.
Tampa Bay will then drop its first injury report of the week on Thursday.
