BVB women celebrate win at home against Mecklenbeck

After his team conceded a late equalising goal last Sunday in Bielefeld, head coach Markus Högner honed his team's focus for the home game against DJK Wacker Mecklenbeck. Against the backdrop of a perfect record in the Stadion Rote Erde, a similar performance was called for against the team in seventh place in the table. Since the previous week, Frederike Kempe, Noreen Günnewig and Jenske Steenwijk had joined the starting formation, with Steenwijk receiving the green light following her hand injury in the Pokal game against FC Bayern Munich. The hosts started the game with a lot of momentum in the direction of their opponents' goal, meaning the first chances came early for BVB (Marquardt, 3rd and 7th minutes). The first cheer went up in the Stadion Rote Erde in the 15th minute. After a precise pass into the penalty area, Rita Schumacher put the ball in the bottom right corner with a well-placed shot, taking BVB a goal up.

After going a goal down, DJK Wacker Mecklenbeck repeatedly showed themselves to be waiting for an opportunity, and disrupted play early on - though this also created space for the Black&Yellows. After an impressive ball win and pass by Ronja Leubner, Schumacher had a chance to extend BVB's lead in the 20th minute. But the Borussians didn't have to wait long for goal number two. When Rita Schumacher had another chance, Mecklenbeck keeper Lena Kloock was unable to keep hold of the ball, and it was Jasmin Jabbes who took the opportunity, taking BVB 2-0 into the lead (22). Markus Högner's team gave a mature performance throughout, getting the ball to Kloock's goal again and again, but were unable to score for a third time before the half-time whistle.

Ronja Leubner scores twice

Both teams stayed the same after half time, but thanks to a well-organised Mecklenbeck defence, BVB were unable to break through at first. This all changed in the 59th minute, when Ronja Leubner scored to make it 3-0: Jasmin Jabbes played the ball into the penalty area and the opposition failed to fully clear it, allowing Leubner to put it in the bottom left corner. Just under 15 minutes later, the number 17 did it again. Following a pass by Annika Enderle, who had come on during the second half, Leubner scored her second goal, making it 4-0. After this, both teams made several changes and the Borussians continued to attack, giving the 1,393 fans in the Stadion Rote Erde a fifth goal to celebrate. In the 85th minute, following a cross by Jenske Steenwijk, Annika Enderle headed the ball into the left post and it rebounded over the goal line: the conclusion to a well-deserved home win.

Outlook: On the ninth match day of the Regionalliga West, the Borussians will be playing away to SSV Rhade (19.10, 13:30 CEST). The game will be played on the artificial turf pitch at the Sportpark Risthaus (Dillenweg 115, 46286 Dorsten). Those who are unable to come and cheer for the Black&Yellows can watch the game live and for free on Pluto TV.

Goals: 1-0 Schumacher (15), 2-0 Jabbes (22), 3-0 Leubner (59), 4-0 Leubner (73), 5-0 Enderle (85)
