The Tennessee Titans have decided to fire head coach Brian Callahan just a season-plus into his tenure and comments quarterback Cam Ward and star defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons might've been the final nail in his coffin.
The Titans didn't really need much ammunition to fire Callahan. After all, the team was completely inept under him, boasting a 4-19 record overall, and the former Tennessee head coach showed time and time again he was incompetent.
But Ward and Simmons provided yet more ammunition for why Callahan should get the boot after the team's latest loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 6.
Simmons revealed that the Titans had a bad week at practice, which was yet another indictment on Callahan.
“It started at practice,” Simmons said, per Buck Reising of AtoZ Sports. “Just being honest, this was probably one of our worst weeks of practice. Came out flat on Thursday.
"Sometimes things carry over…and in this league, you have to prove it every week. And re-prove it," he added. "You have to go out there and keep proving yourself, your team, that you can win in this league. We didn’t do that in all three phases. Today was bad football. We didn’t play good today at all."
Ward echoed those sentiments.
“He not lyin’,” Ward said of Simmons’ comment. “We came out flat, and its the way we played today. We just can’t let that carry over."
The Titans have been on a generational run with firings since 2022, when the team cut former general manager Jon Robinson loose.
Since then, the Titans fired Mike Vrabel (2024) and Robinson's replacement, Ran Carthon (2025). Now, Vrabel's replacement is gone, too.
From here, the Titans will name an interim head coach before they once again enter the head coach market in 2026.
