As ever, Chelsea are hungry for market opportunities.
If they see a player they like going for less than they think they’re worth, they’re not afraid to go for it. Alejandro Garnacho’s arrival for £40m this summer was a perfect example, as was the £5m snapping up of Marc Guiu last summer.
And it sounds like another former Barcelona man is on their radar. The Boot Room claim that the Blues are interested in former Man City youngster Eric Garcia. Still just 24, he’s available on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Chelsea have previously pushed to sign Ronald Araujo and Marc Casado, and apparently asked for details about Garcia’s demands at the time too. The Blues are in a funny situation defensively – they have a lot of good players but no great players.

We’ve got to say, we really don’t buy this. The links to Eric Garcia’s teammate Ronald Araujo make more sense, he’s just a better player and a better fit for the Blues.
But Garcia is just not a very good player, and even on a free transfer it’s hard to see him being an option that the sporting directors are keen on.
They’ve surprised us before, so we can’t rule anything out, but this feels like a huge long shot.
In other news…
Another defender the Blues have been linked with is Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace. The former Blues academy player is a free agent next summer, and the clubs are apparently on the list of teams looking to sign him.
Meanwhile, in terms of defenders on the way out, Chelsea continue to try and find a home for Axel Disasi, the defender they’ve been trying to shift for over a year now. Borussia Dortmund are the latest club to be linked.
