University of Iowa men's basketball player Tavion Banks was arrested over the weekend for his part in an alcohol-fueled bar brawl, according to multiple reports.
Banks was arrested and charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11 in Iowa City, according to a criminal complaint obtained by KCRG, TMZ and HawkCentral.
The college basketball star, who helped lead Drake to the second round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament before transferring to Iowa, was allegedly involved in a fight with staff at ReUnion Brewery, a popular nightlife spot close to the university's campus.
The complaint claimed Banks smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot, watery eyes, and refused a preliminary breath test at the scene, per the outlets.

Following reports of Banks' arrest, the University of Iowa's Athletics Department issued a statement to KCRG. "The UI Athletics Department and men’s basketball program are aware of Tavion Banks’ citation over the weekend," the school said. "He is subject to established university protocol regarding the UI Student-Athlete Code of Conduct, and the rules and regulations set for members of the men’s basketball program.”
Before transferring to Iowa, Banks averaged 10.1 points and 5 rebounds for Drake. Last season, he was named the Missouri Valley Conference's sixth man of the year.
Days before his arrest, Banks was honored by Kansas City LINC's athletics program for giving back to local youth in his hometown.
In a post shared five days before his arrest, he reflected on his family's struggles during his childhood.
Banks wrote in his caption on the video, "I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the LINC Program for supporting the youth. Your generosity and belief in the power of investing in young people truly means a lot. It’s inspiring to see an organization so committed to uplifting the next generation, and I’m grateful to have been able to partner with you in making a difference.
