Dakari Spear, a four-star shooting guard in the 2026 class, has committed to Texas Tech, he told Rivals.

The 6-foot-4 senior out of Dynamic Prep (TX) ultimately chose the Red Raiders over Syracuse but also received offers from Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, and others.

Spear is ranked as the No. 74 overall player in the class, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking. He’s also the No. 17 shooting guard and No. 7 player in the state of Texas.

Spear on his commitment to Texas Tech

Dakari Spear discussed his decision to choose the Red Raiders with Rivals.

“I chose Tech because of Coach McCasland’s ability to take his players to the next level. I’ve seen how he’s been able to take in guards and sky rocket their averages in many aspects of their game so development is a huge thing for me.”

What led to his trust in the coaching staff?

“My trust in the coaching staff came from their relentless effort in recruiting me and showing me how I would thrive in their offensive schemes. They’ve always told me from day one how special of a player I am and if they were lucky enough to land me I wouldn’t regret it.”

In his own words, what type of player is Texas Tech getting in Spear?

“I describe myself as a three-level scorer who can create for not only myself but my teammates as well. I’m also big on competing on the defensive side, so just trying to be the best two-way player I can be.”

He has a message for Tech fans.

“Red Raider Nation — it’s official. I’m committed to Texas Tech! Time to bring that energy to Lubbock and make some history. Let’s get it! ⚫ #WreckEm”
