That's a reach: 3 overreactions to New Orleans Saints' loss vs. Patriots

That's a reach. Breaking down three overreactions to the New Orleans Saints' frustrating Week 6 loss against the New England Patriots:

Week 6 of the NFL season has passed for the New Orleans Saints, and they will head into Week 7 with a 1-5 record following a pretty brutal loss to the New England Patriots. While the 25-19 score was close, there were some extremely difficult plays put together by the Saints that ultimately led to them losing out on a game in which they had pretty strong quarterback play.

With that said, here are three overreactions to this Week 6 loss for New Orleans:

1. The Saints may have the worst secondary in the NFL at this moment

This one is to be expected after a game like that, where New Orleans' secondary was getting absolutely torched on multiple plays, specifically Quincy Riley and Jonas Sanker, who combined for a few different plays that ultimately ended up being touchdowns or large gains. It was clear that the pass defense would be an issue heading into this season, but how bad it truly would be was unclear until this game. While the front seven has shown signs of improvement, the secondary has rapidly regressed to giving up large plays on a weekly basis now.

2. Spencer Rattler may be ready to be the franchise quarterback

This writer is not exactly a prolific fan of Spencer Rattler, and heading into the season, preferred Tyler Shough to get starting reps. With that in mind, Rattler showed just how impressive he can be during this matchup, going 20-of-26 for 227 passing yards along with 4 rushes for 20 yards. This was one of the first games where he was attacking downfield and in the intermediate game. His receivers truly did not do him any favors with a few drops that could have netted him a touchdown or more yards.

A performance such as this is exactly what the Saints should be looking for long term, with the exception of the few plays that were dropped. While his season as a whole has been streaky and, at times, uneventful, he is beginning to improve into someone the team could build with.

3. It may be time to find a new punter

Special teams have been an issue all year long for New Orleans, especially in the kicking game, with Blake Grupe not looking all that impressive. However, he did his job in Week 6, but on the other hand, Kai Kroeger looked to regress rapidly, which is a concerning issue. While he did only punt two times on the day, neither was good, with a total of 70 yards or 35 on average, and neither punt landed inside the 20-yard line. One of them went out of bounds before it even completed its full trajectory, which is highly unsettling.

While it is early in the year to be discussing changes, there is certainly precedent to look at other punters, and potentially kickers if Grupe reverts to his early-season form.
