Fennville, Black River soccer teams advance to district finals with shutout wins

The Fennville and Black River boys soccer teams are headed to the district finals. Here is how they got there.

The Fennville and Black River boys soccer teams each won district semifinal matchups on Monday, Oct. 13, to advance to the district finals.

Fennville defeated Allegan 1-0 in the Division 3 semifinals behind a goal from Salvador Carranza.

The Blackhawks will play the Paw Paw-South Haven winner on Wednesday at Comstock High School.

In Division 4, Black River defeated Wyoming Tri-unity Christian 3-0 to advance to the district finals at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Saugatuck.

Jake Levering got the River Rats on the scoreboard in the first half with a goal off a long throw-in from Ben Hogan that was deflected and assisted by Charles Zink.

The score remained 1-0 until 10 minutes remaining in the second half when Jamison Huizenga found Zink on a nice through ball to put the Rats up 2-0.

Black River's Eliot Reither kicks the ball to a teammate on Sept. 10.

Eliot Reither ended the scoring with an unassisted goal with 6 minutes remaining in the game.

Omar Suleymanov made several big saves in the second half to earn the shutout.
