World Cup 2026: Six African teams already qualified, three spots still up for grabs

With the number of participants increased to 48 teams, Africa has the chance to set a new record for World Cup appearances, surpassing its previous best of five teams during the 2018 and 2022 editions.FIFA has allocated 9 direct spots to the African zone for the 2026 World Cup, with the possibility of a tenth through the intercontinental playoffs.
As of today, six African teams have already secured their place in the final tournament in North America. Here’s the list of these teams and their previous appearances:
This Tuesday night, the African qualifiers will conclude, and the last three teams will secure direct qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
