NT coach warns Barcelona forward to prove himself at club level – ‘Need to achieve personal best on a regular basis’

England national team coach Thomas Tuchel has issued a clear warning to Barcelona forward Marcus Rashford. 

The 27-year-old, currently on loan from Manchester United, has impressed, showing that he has the tools to become one of the best players in the world. 

However, Tuchel stressed that Rashford must improve his on-field performances to reach his full potential.

Since joining Barcelona under Hansi Flick, Rashford has made a strong start, scoring three goals and providing five assists in just 10 games. 

His early displays have generated excitement among fans, but Tuchel’s message makes it clear that talent alone is not enough.

Emphasising the importance of performance

Speaking ahead of England’s match against Latvia, Tuchel discussed Rashford’s potential and the need for consistent results.

“It’s not a question of talent, it’s a question of whether he can prove himself at club level and with the national team.

“Otherwise, in 10 years’ time he will be disappointed by what he could have been and what he did with it,” he said.

Tuchel highlighted that while Rashford’s potential is very high, potential must be converted into tangible results on the pitch.

“His ceiling is very high. Perhaps higher than others,” Tuchel told reporters. 

“He has potential, but potential is a dangerous word in high-level sport. You have to achieve your personal best on a regular basis.He could be one of the best in the world,” he added.

The England international’s loan spell at Barcelona represents an important opportunity to elevate his career. 

With a strong start already behind him, the focus now is on maintaining consistency, and if everything goes as planned, Barcelona might as well exercise the buy option at the end of the season.
