Chelsea are moving towards signing another talented South American teenager according to reports from Sport Witness.

They translate sources in Brazil who say the Blues are “keeping an eye on” left back Souza, the 19 year old who has started featuring for Santos this season. He has 19 appearances for the first team since making his debut at the start of the year, and has two officially recognised assists.

According to the Sport Witness piece, he’s “considered one of the brightest young talents in Santos’ squad.”

Our current sporting structure have signed a host of South American talent already, from the gem Estevao to flops like Deivid Washington.

Souza’s deal with Santos runs until 2028, but it feels unlikely that he makes it that far, given the growing interest from abroad. If Chelsea don’t sign him, it looks a lot like someone else from Europe will.

Boehly’s name surely just thrown in for clout

Jose Feliciano, Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali.

The idea that Todd Boehly personally approved him is quite a funny one – we all saw how his brief stint as sporting director went. We’re pretty sure that he’s the last one to want to repeat that experience.

If he couldn’t work out that giving Raheem Sterling £300,000 a week was a bad idea, is he really going to back himself to scout teenage full backs from South America? Get real…

But that doesn’t mean the rumours about Souza overall aren’t true – we will be interested to see if anything comes of this.

In other news…

On the subject of young full backs, Chelsea have just signed Riley Ebho from West Ham to join their academy.

Meanwhile, Estevao has been left out of Brazil’s starting XI for their game against Japan today, improving our chances of seeing him this weekend when we face Nottingham Forest.
