The defense has been severely underwhelming so far in the 2025 campaign.

Through six games, Mike Zimmer's unit is surrendering 30.7 points per game, which is second-worst in the NFL, only behind the Baltimore Ravens (32.3).

One of the primary reasons for the Cowboys' defensive struggles is the absence of linebacker DeMarvion Overshown. The young defender has yet to play this year as he recovers from a torn ACL, MCL, and PCL suffered during Week 14 of the 2024 season.

In 13 games last season, Overshown showed a ton of promise, tallying 90 tackles and eight tackles for loss with 38 defensive stops. Getting the 24-year-old linebacker back in the lineup would be incredibly beneficial for Dallas, and according to owner and general manager Jerry Jones, Overshown is close to making his highly anticipated return.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Jones stated that he expects Overshown to return after the Cowboys' Week 10 bye.

"I would be looking at after the bye [week]," Jones said via Jon Machota of The Athletic.

Overshown is still a raw player, but the Texas product has the potential to be a long-time starter on Dallas' defense if he can stay healthy. With Zimmer's group lacking much juice lately, Overshown's return can't come soon enough.
