Ranking Texas A&M football's remaining 6 opponents from easiest to toughest

After Week 7, here are the remaining opponents ranked from easiest to toughest before Texas A&M goes on the road to face Arkansas on Saturday.

It’s halfway through the regular season, and the No. 4 Texas A&M Aggies are converting skeptics into believers as Coach Mike Elko instills a culture of toughness and accountability throughout the program.

Based on current momentum, Texas A&M should be favored in every remaining game on the schedule. However, much of that hinges on their performance over the next two weeks against formidable road opponents.

Arkansas boasts a potent offense capable of applying serious pressure, but its bottom-tier defense struggles to contain even moderately competent teams. LSU, on the other hand, features a stout defense that has kept them competitive in every matchup, though their inability to establish a consistent run game has hampered offensive production all season.

Texas A&M finds itself in a peculiar position, and “Battered Aggie Syndrome” remains a genuine concern—regardless of Coach Elko’s efforts to reframe the narrative. Until the Aggies surpass the seven- or eight-win threshold, skepticism will linger about their status as a true SEC contender. This season is pivotal for the program, and the upcoming stretch offers a prime opportunity to solidify its future trajectory.

With six regular-season games remaining, here’s a ranking of Texas A&M’s opponents from easiest to most challenging, based on performance and momentum:

6. Texas A&M vs. Samford - Week 11

Sep 7, 2024; Gainesville, Florida, USA; Samford Bulldogs quarterback Connor Masters (19) and Samford Bulldogs running back Ken Cherry (22) wait for a play call against the Gators during the second half at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

2025 record: 0-6

Analysis: No surprises here. Samford remains winless, and expectations are clear—the Aggies should dominate from kickoff to final whistle.

5. Texas A&M vs. South Carolina - Week 10

Sep 6, 2025; Columbia, South Carolina, USA; South Carolina Gamecocks defensive back Vicari Swain (4) celebrates his second punt return touchdown against the South Carolina State Bulldogs in the second quarter at Williams-Brice Stadium.

2025 record: 3-3

Analysis: South Carolina faces a brutal stretch with four consecutive matchups against top-15 teams, three of which currently rank in the top six. Their offense has struggled against elite SEC defenses, though their own defensive unit has held firm. Ultimately, they likely lack the firepower to keep pace with Texas A&M.

4. Texas A&M at Arkansas - Week 7

Sep 6, 2025; Little Rock, Arkansas, USA; Arkansas Razorbacks linebacker Xavian Sorey Jr. (10) celebrates after an interception during the first quarter against the Arkansas State Red Wolves at War Memorial Stadium. Arkansas won 56-14.

2025 record: 2-4

Analysis: Since entering SEC play, the Razorbacks have surrendered an average of 38 points per game. Yet, outside of their matchup with Notre Dame, they’ve consistently scored at least 31 points per contest. Their dynamic QB-WR duo—Taylen Green and O’Mega Blake—is among the conference’s best. This will be the Aggies’ toughest defensive test since facing Notre Dame, and avoiding a shootout on the road would be a major statement.

3. Texas A&M at LSU - Week 8

Tigers Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier 18 hands off to JuJuan Johnson 8, LSU Tigers take on the Louisiana Tech. Sept 6, 2025; Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA; at Tiger Stadium.

2025 record: 5-1

Analysis: LSU has maintained a consistent identity this season, anchored by a defense that hasn’t allowed more than 24 points in any game. Offensively, however, the Tigers have struggled to surpass the 20-point mark. History favors LSU, as Texas A&M hasn’t secured a win in Death Valley since 1994.

2. Texas A&M at Texas - Week 12

2025 record: 4-2

Analysis: The Longhorns showed improvement against Oklahoma, though the Sooners’ quarterback was clearly not at full strength. Even so, Arch Manning appeared more composed and efficient against a formidable OU defense, protecting the ball well. While Texas managed just one offensive touchdown, this performance could be the confidence boost Manning needs to elevate his game as an SEC quarterback.

1. Texas A&M at Missouri - Week 9

Sep 6, 2025; Columbia, Missouri, USA; Missouri Tigers running back Jamal Roberts (20) celebrates with tight end Jordon Harris (86) after scoring a touchdown during the fourth quarter against the Kansas Jayhawks at Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Jay Biggerstaff-Imagn Images

2025 record: 5-1

Analysis: Missouri’s lone loss came against a surging Alabama squad. They now appear to be the most complete team remaining on A&M’s schedule. Hosting the Aggies after a bye week, this matchup could be the SEC game of the week—and a fitting preview of next season, when these teams will face off annually for the next four years.
