Mike Vrabel and the New England Patriots are heading into NFL Week 7 with a ton of positive momentum. The team knocked off the New Orleans Saints in Week 6 to improve to 4-2, and now sit in first place in the AFC East after the Buffalo Bills fell on Monday Night Football.
The Week 6 matchup was a notable homecoming for Kayshon Boutte and Will Campbell. Both players grew up in Louisiana and played college ball at LSU, so it was exciting for the two to play in New Orleans as pro athletes.
There will be another homecoming in Week 7, but this time it’ll be for Vrabel. The coach will return to Nashville just under two years after being fired by the Titans. Over six years with the Titans, Vrabel compiled a 54-45 overall record with a 2-3 mark in the postseason. Consecutive losing seasons made the Titans decide to fire Vrabel, though, and the rest is history.
On Monday, Vrabel was asked about his return to the Music City.
“There is going to be, probably, a lot to be said about this,” Vrabel said. “I think it would file under the category of, ‘is it interesting or important?’ I would probably say this would be very interesting. But in the end, not very important to our preparation or what we need to continue to try to do to improve as a team. But having spent six years there or seven years there, I think it’ll be nice to see some people that I haven’t seen in a few years that helped us win, players and staff. But we’ve got a huge job here to do as we prepare for them.”
In typical Vrabel fashion, the coach didn’t get too emotional or specific, just touched on the issue and then focused on his team’s preparation.
This game is even more interesting now that the Titans fired Vrabel’s replacement, Brian Callahan, on Monday. The Titans’ first game under interim head coach Mike McCoy will be against Vrabel and the Patriots in Week 7.
With a win, the Patriots would improve to 5-2, with winnable games against the Cleveland Browns and Atlanta Falcons next on the docket.
