Cam Skattebo had a unique training approach to get to the NFL.

The New York Giants running back has turned heads for his hard-hitting running style and overly-aggressive approach to the game since he made his NFL debut at the start of the season.

His mother, Becky Skattebo, gave a glimpse into the untraditional tactics her 23-year-old son would practice in his younger years in hopes of going pro in an ESPN interview from January that's now gone viral as her son's star rises in the league.

"He would put his brother's shoulder pads on and he would run into telephone poles," Becky said in the clip from his time playing for Arizona State University that's circling social media. "Once he got onto the field, it was no surprise the punishment he inflicted on his own body and everybody else."

If it hasn't been clear by his game play on the field each week (not to mention his non-stop backflips to celebrate his touchdowns in the end zones), Skattebo has no shortage of self confidence — and it's a trait he's had for a while.

"I'm the best running back in the country," the player said in the video. "I used to put my brother's helmet on all the time and we used to play football in the living room together," he shared of his past.

"Cameron's always been able to figure out how to get up, over or through things," added Becky.

Skattebo was selected 105th overall by the New York Giants in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. In June, the Arizona State running back signed his rookie contract to complete the team's draft class.

The New York Giants have been starting to regain confidence in their fanbase since backup quarterback and fellow 2025 draftee Jaxson Dart replaced Super Bowl champ Russell Wilson as starting quarterback during the Sept. 28 game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Dart, who led the Giants to their first victory of the season after defeating the Chargers 21-18, and Skattebo are also becoming fan favorites across the league. Their touchdown celebrations, too, are making them a likable pairing.

Skattebo, meanwhile, can't stop backflipping.

After he scored a two-point conversion to put the Giants up 21-10 in the third quarter against the Chargers, he wowed fans with the stunt and mimicked the hand motions of a surfer as his teammates pumped him up.

Recently, Dart and Skattebo shocked the system by leading the Giants to another victory — but this time, it was a blowout 34-17 win over the Super Bowl-reigning Philadelphia Eagles.

The New York Giants, who are currently 2-4 this season, next take on the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Oct. 19.
