The international break has been a drag, as ever, and we thank god there’s been a shining light out there to give us something to think about while we wait for Chelsea to return to action this weekend.

Estevao only started one of the two games for Brazil in the fortnight – but he managed to bag two and make a big impact. On the London is Blue podcast they had an Estevao special to hail the winger who was last seen in a Blue shirt winning the game against Liverpool two weeks ago.

“It’s ridiculous. He has three goals already. He’s the high scorer for Carlo Ancelotti,” pundit Jessica Frota said.

“You’re talking about an 18 year old for Brazil’s national team. That’s a huge deal. He has been given opportunities thanks to the circumstances, for Brazil Rafinha has been out injured so he gets a chance there, and for Chelsea, you know, Cole Palmer has been injured and all of that. So maybe things happened a little bit quicker than expected, but that’s his opportunity and it’s on him to deliver.”

And deliver he has. Everyone is very concerned to not overload him, yet he’s shone every time he’s been on the pitch. We still back Enzo Maresca to give him a very slow and steady introduction, but you just know the Bridge will be calling for him every time we struggle to score.

In other news…

These weren’t the only people talking about Estevao this week – Pat Nevin has been out there comparing him to Neymar. The fact that that’s not ridiculous speaks volumes.

But part of the process of working him into the team will be making sure he’s not overplayed, and for that reason we expect a different South American to be in the team this weekend.
