Chelsea youngster Tyrique George has revealed he’s really close friends with Jamie Gittens, as he opened up on his relationship with the winger.
Gittens arrived at Chelsea in the summer from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth an initial £48m, and was one of five attacking signings.
The England under-21 international has struggled so far this season, although he did look bright when he came off the bench in the win against Liverpool.
Tyrique George on his friendship with Jamie Gittens
Gittens is competing for a place on the left wing with Alejandro Garnacho, whilst Pedro Neto has also been deployed at times there this season.
The 21-year-old has made seven appearances in all competitions so far this season, but has only started two of Chelsea’s first seven league games.
George and Gittens celebrate for England under-21s.
Former Arsenal player Alan Smith feels Gittens hasn’t been an upgrade for the Blues, and there’s a risk he could become a flop.
However, Gittens put in an impressive showing for England under-21s against Andorra, and George has opened up on his friendship with his new team-mate.
“We’re really close friends,” he said as quoted on X.com.
“You always need competition in a top club, and you’re always going to get that.
“So I feel like he’s pushed me, and I push him, that’s the main objective, so it’s good.”
Tyrique George likely to leave in January
George has been handed opportunities by Enzo Maresca this season, mainly at centre forward, although he almost left the club in the summer.

A move to Fulham collapsed on deadline day, and it’s been reported the 19-year-old is likely to leave during the January window.
Lee Carsley feels George has the attributes to develop into a number nine, but given Chelsea have Delap returning, and Marc Guiu and Joao Pedro on their books it’s hard to see where those minutes are coming from.
