With two November qualifiers still to come, England knew going into Tuesday’s match away to Latvia that they could qualify for the World Cup well ahead of schedule with a win.

Arsenal trio Myles Lewis-Skelly, Declan Rice, and Bukayo Saka all made the starting lineup, with Eberechi Eze beginning the game on the bench.

Fresh off the back off his goal and Player of the Match award against Wales last week, Saka provided a first-half assist with an element of fortune about it. The ball effectively ricocheted off Saka to Harry Kane, who finished the chance confidently.

Eze was introduced in the second half, with England already 4-0 up, and scored an impressive finish to make it five. Picking up the ball on the left-hand side of the penalty area, the Arsenal summer signing drove infield before firing a shot into the far corner.

The three points were never really in doubt, but Lewis-Skelly will be pleased that the defence kept another clean sheet with him playing 90 minutes in the back four.

Rice and Saka came off on the hour mark, with the result effectively already wrapped up by that point.

Seven points clear of second-placed Albania with only two games remaining, England can now afford to lose their final qualifiers in November and still finish in top spot. The team can now start turning their attentions to next summer’s World Cup.
