England secured an impressive 5-0 victory over Latvia in their World Cup qualifying match on October 14 at Daugava Stadium in Riga.

Anthony Gordon opened the scoring for the Three Lions in the 26th minute, followed by captain Harry Kane netting a brace before the end of the first half.

Latvian defender Maksims Toņisevs netted an own goal to take England's score to four, while Eberechi Eze scored the last goal of the match in the 86th minute.

With this win, England became the first European country to book their spot in the 2026 World Cup and will be making their eighth consecutive appearance in the competition.

The Three Lions have not conceded a goal in six matches in qualifying so far under head coach Thomas Tuchel.

Along with the qualification, Kane also made history for England on Tuesday by scoring more than one goal in a match for the 13th time in his national career. With his brace against Latvia, the 32-year-old star surpassed Nat Lofthouse's record of 12 times achieving the feat.

Kane is England's top goal scorer with 76 goals in 110 appearances, which ranks him fifth for the most Three Lions appearances in history, and could overtake their current all-time appearance record holder, Peter Shilton, who has 125 senior international caps to his name.

What did Harry Kane say about England's qualification to the 2026 World Cup?

Speaking after the win over Latvia, Kane hailed England's World Cup qualification with two matches remaining as a 'great achievement' and said,

"Another tournament! I said it before, we make it look easy but these games can be tough. These groups can be tough and we have to be fully focused in every game we play and I thought today we were at a very high level," as per GOAL.

"We talk about no matter who we play, setting a high standard to keep the momentum we've built and I think that showed this week. Qualifying with two games to go is a great achievement. Zero goals conceded and we're playing some great football. We can only take care of the opposition in front of us and we've done that very well so far."

"I'd say [I’m feeling good], the numbers are, obviously. The way I'm feeling on the pitch seeing the passes and the runs, physically I'm in a good place and hopefully I can keep it going."

While he is expected to return to the pitch for England in the November qualifiers, Kane, along with Bayern Munich, will now focus on their upcoming Bundesliga match against Borussia Dortmund on October 18 at Allianz Arena.
