Juventus have rekindled their interest in signing midfielder Franck Kessie ahead of the January transfer window, according to Gazzetta.
The Old Lady view Kessie as a valuable asset due to his strong background in Italian football and his physical style, which is well-suited to the demands of the league.
Kessie, currently playing for Al-Ahli, is reportedly eager to return to Serie A, where he previously enjoyed considerable success with AC Milan.
The Ivorian’s contract with Al-Ahli runs until 2026, and the Saudi club are understood to be willing to negotiate a January exit to avoid losing him for free next summer, despite recently winning the AFC Champions League and the Saudi Super Cup.
However, any Juventus pursuit of Kessie is faced with a significant financial hurdle, given that his current wages at Al-Ahli are around €10 million per year, a figure considered unaffordable for Juventus, given their wage structure.
Outside Dusan Vlahovic, very few Juventus players earn more than €6 million annually.
This creates a notable challenge in negotiations, as Kessie would need to accept a substantial salary cut to facilitate the transfer.
Still, Juventus remain hopeful that Kessie’s desire to return to European football and compete at a high level will encourage him to reduce his demands.
Should Kessie agree to a pay cut, Juventus will be getting a reliable midfield reinforcer without overshooting their financial capabilities.
Unbeaten in six league matches this term, Igor Tudor’s side have made a decent start to the season and sit just three points shy of leaders Napoli.
However, Juventus have drawn in each of their last five matches across all competitions ahead of their return to action against Como at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on Saturday.
