Despite Hulu scrapping plans for a documentary about Bill Belichick and North Carolina, the coach still plans to get a series made. However, it will not be anything like what football fans are hoping for.
Belichick taking his legendary coaching talents to the collegiate ranks is one of the biggest stories in football this year. However, he has been in the headlines for months for all the wrong reasons. His 24-year-old gal pal and unofficial manager has had an outsized role in his life for better or worse. He and general manager Mike Lombardi reportedly have little idea of how to build a college program, and he has a petty ongoing beef with his former team, the Patriots.
Things have not been much better on the field. The Tar Heels are 2-3 heading into Week 7 and have been decisively beaten by any team with a pulse. And there have been rumblings about serious organizational dysfunction in the program. It is why rumors have emerged that Belichick is now in the hottest seat in college football.
Bill Belichick still wants to do series about time at North Carolina
It seems like the sort of mess that would be perfect television. Yet, despite reports about plans for a docuseries about the coach’s first season in Chapel Hill, plans continue to fall through, and last week, Hulu reportedly backed out of filming after being on board with the idea of a docuseries.
Well, it seems that Bill Belichick has not given up hope on a series about his time leading North Carolina’s football program.
“It’s still a work in progress and we’re working through a few logistics on it, so no real update at this time, but there will be something,” he said [H/T WRAL.com].
Belichick-UNC series will probably be fluff piece
However, Pro Football Talk NFL insider believes fans should not expect to see the drama they have been reading about for months. Because Belichick, his lady love, Hudson, and the university have continually looked to craft a positive narrative about his career at UNC despite the rumors.
“Whatever it is, North Carolina’s goal will be to create a recruiting tool,” Florio wrote. “So it will focus on any and all positivity, while minimizing the negativity. And UNC will surely demand final say over the final cut, even if that means making the thing itself.
“It’s still not clear why the Hulu deal was abandoned,” he added. “North Carolina may have backed out. Hulu may have backed out. Given the reports regarding the collapse of the Offseason Hard Knocks opportunity, Jordon Hudson may have played a role in the final decision.”
