George Pickens knew that when he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys, it was a chance to put himself in the shop window of not only the NFC East franchise but also any other NFL team that might want his services after the 2025 season.

With Pickens playing on the final year of his rookie contract, there was a chance that if he played well in Dallas, a big payday might be forthcoming at the end of the season, and through six weeks, George is playing like a $30 million APY receiver.

Already with 525 yards and six touchdowns, George has hit the ground running, and that bumper new contract in the offseason looks as good as done, but he isn't thinking about that right now.

"I probably wouldn't really say all that because I'm definitely in the middle of the season," Pickens said. "So, I'm not fully thinking about it. I just want to keep going and see how far we can get in the season, as far as playoffs and stuff like that. But definitely keep on improving for sure."

Could Cowboys afford Pickens?

Already with roughly $31 million in cap space, yes, the Cowboys can afford a Pickens extension, but perhaps the more important question is this: Do they want to sign him?

Having so much salary cap tied up between Dak, CeeDee, and then George, not to mention Jake Ferguson and Tyler Smith, the Cowboys are very top heavy on offense regarding contracts, and we know what the defense is like.

But if Pickens were extended, with the draft picks gained from the Micah Parsons trade, that would allow the Cowboys to go all-in (that phrase again) on the defensive side of the ball via the draft and even free agency.

Pickens isn't thinking about an extension right now, but Dallas surely must be given that with each passing week, the price seems to only go up.
