The high school tournament is here for Southwest Ohio girls soccer teams. Here are the top clubs and storylines.
All-to-play-for-time is here in Cincinnati high school soccer. The Ohio High School Athletic Association girls soccer tournament begins this week. Some brackets begin Oct. 16, with the big-school slates, Divisions I and II, starting next week.
Here is a look at some of the top teams and storylines in the postseason. The full brackets are linked in the first paragraph of each division
Who leads the OHSAA Division I girls soccer districts?
Defending state champion Springboro (14-2-1) is the No. 1 seed in the North bracket. The top seeds in the South bracket are Mason, Oak Hills, Seton, Fairfield and Sycamore.
Springboro lost twice in league play and drew 0-0 with Oak Hills. They have beaten several top Cincinnati teams. Hailey Burns and Keira Buckholtz lead a balanced offense with seven goals, and the Panthers have conceded nine all season.
Mason is bracketed to play in Region 2 with Central Region teams. The Comets were undefeated in the Greater Miami Conference, ending the regular season with Sycamore Oct. 15, and have only lost once since Aug. 23, to No. 6 seed Walnut Hills. Mason beat Oak Hills 3-0. Senior Anna Habra has 14 goals, and the Comets have allowed 10.
Oak Hills (12-1-3) has not lost except to Mason. Taylor Spille has 16 goals and Olivia Slye 13, and the Highlanders have only allowed 10 this season. Fairfield (9-4-3) is third in the GMC, led by senior Leaha Compton with 15 goals.
Seton (8-2-6), the defending regional champion, won the Girls Greater Catholic League and have had a brutal schedule, drawing Oak Hills 0-0, losing 1-0 to Mason and beating Fairfield 4-0 along the way.
If seeds hold, the Region 4 semifinals would be Springboro vs. Seton, and Oak Hills vs. Fairfield.
Who leads the OHSAA Division II girls soccer districts?
The top seeds, in order, are Anderson, St. Ursula, Little Miami, Harrison and Mount Notre Dame.
Anderson (9-4-4) has struggled down the stretch, losing three straight. The Raptors have allowed 15 goals in their last five games and have one of the area’s top scorers in junior Nina Brandon (23 goals).
Little Miami (8-4-4) won the Eastern Cincinnati Conference for the first time in program history. The Panthers have No. 5 MND and No. 7 Ursuline in their district bracket, plus league foe Kings.
St. Ursula is 8-4-3 against a brutal schedule, and finished second to Seton in the GGCL. SUA beat Harrison 4-1. St. Ursula could meet No. 2 Northmont in the district finals. That was the only loss for Harrison (12-1-4), which recently tied Little Miami and has only allowed 13 goals all season. Harrison has a tough match with Loveland then could meet No. 1 seed Troy in a district final. Harrison keeper Mallory Oliver has nine clean sheets this year and a career record 17.
Who leads the OHSAA Division III girls soccer districts?
The top seeds are Badin, Ross, McNicholas and Western Brown.
If seeds hold, the district finals are Western Brown vs. Oakwood, McNicholas vs. Butler, Ross vs. Chaminade-Julienne and Badin vs. Carroll.
The Rams (9-3-5) were Greater Catholic League-Coed champions and have recent draws with bigger schools Fairfield and Seton. Senior Braelyn Even leads the offense with eight goals and five assists.
Ross (14-2-1) was co-champions of the SWBL-Southwestern and allowed only four goals all season. The Rams have three players in double figures in goals in senior Kaylee Vocke (13), freshman Ava Bush (13) and junior Isabelle Davis (12). Their losses are to co-champ Bellbrook and DII Harrison.
Western Brown (15-2) was co-champs of the SBAAC-American with Batavia, who they could face in a district semifinal. Junior Kendall Hanlon has 31 goals and sophomore Lydia Seibert 16.
Who leads the OHSAA Division IV girls soccer districts?
Reigning state champion Summit Country Day has rolled over all competition this year. They are the top seeds, followed by Indian Hill, Mariemont and Roger Bacon.
If seeds hold, district finals are Indian Hill vs. Kenton Ridge, Alter vs. Mariemont, Summit vs. Benjamin Logan and Miami East vs. Shawnee.
The top opponents in Summit’s district bracket are Benjamin Logan (11-3-1) and Miami East (10-1-2). Summit is enjoying its second unbeaten season in school history. Mia Stevens, an Ohio State commit, moved into third place on the school points list with 155 and has 21 goals, 13 assists this year. Summit has allowed 10 goals this season.
Indian Hill (13-1-3) won its first Cincinnati Hills League title since 2019, and lost 2-1 to Summit on Sept. 27. They wouldn’t face Summit until the regional finals. Mariemont (13-3) finished second in the CHL with a 1-0 loss to Indian Hill. Four players have nine or more goals for the Warriors, led by Addy Zawaly with 15. Indian Hill and Mariemont could meet in a regional semi.
Who leads the OHSAA Division V girls soccer districts?
Defending state champion Madeira is an overwhelming favorite to win its district. Other top seeds are Cincinnati Country Day, Clermont Northeastern and Fayetteville-Perry.
Madeira is 11-4-1, with two losses in league play and recent losses to DI Oak Hills and Little Miami. Senior Natasha Davis leads the offense with 17 goals and the Amazons have allowed 12.
CCD is 6-8-3 with a tough schedule. Audrey de Alarcon and Nicole Hardesty have 10 goals apiece. CNE (10-4-2) and Fayetteville could meet in a district semi. Julia Best leads the Rockets with 17 goals. FP (12-4-1) won the Southern Hills Athletic Conference. Lilly Carlier has 23 goals and Aubrey Barber 16.
