The semis and final will be played on Oct. 16 at Central York.
Three Division I teams qualfied for the YAIAA girls volleyball tournament. All three made it through the quarterfinal round and will join the Division III champion in the semifinals.
Division I champion had the most challenging quarterfinal match on Oct. 15, holding off Division III runner-up Delone Catholic 3-1 with set scores of 25-20, 25-12, 21-25, 25-20.
"I am proud of the way the girls came back in the third set after only scoring 12 in the second set," Delone coach Carli Lehr said. "I told them it showed we can play with teams like this. I think it was just what we needed going into the district tournament."
Lehr lamented that it's difficult to hang with a team like South Western that has multiple strong hitters. Reece Meckley is Delone's go-to hitter, and with 18 kills, the only one in double digits. South Western had three hitters in double digits: Maia Breakey with 20 and Kellyn Ford and Jayda Lichty with 10 each.
Delone sits at No. 3 in the District 3 Class 2A power rankings, which sets them up for a first-round match against Berks Catholic on Oct. 23.
South Western will face the other remaining division champ, Bermudian Springs, in the first semifinal at 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 16. The Eagles, out of Division III, swept West York 25-15, 25-14, 25-17.
The semifinal winners will meet in the championship at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Riley Neiman led the Bulldogs with five kills and Keni Bazzle added four as West York closed out the season. At 9-10, they sit outside the top 14 teams that qualify for the District 3 Class 3A tournament.
The other semifinal pits Central York against Spring Grove in the third meeting of the season between the Division I opponents. The Rockets swept the Panthers in their first meeting and defeated them 3-2 in their second meeting.
Central York advanced with a 3-0 win over Division II champion York Suburban with scores of 25-21, 25-18, 25-20. The Panthers used solid serving to keep the Trojans out of system, which didn't allow them to set their hitters.
Colbie McKenna led York Suburban with 11 kills and Rowan Holler added nine.
The Trojans will have a few days to regroup before the District 3 Class 3A tournament begins. Currently listed as the seventh seed, they will host Elco in the first round if the rankings hold.
Spring Grove rode 14 kills and three aces by Alayna Zeigler, six aces and 26 aissists by Caylor Ormond and two blocks each by Jackie White and Maddie Sliver to sweep Susquehannock 25-19, 25-9, 25-8.
The Warriors are sitting eighth in the Class 3A power rankings, and could host James Buchanan in the first round. Tournament games don't count in the power rankings, which become official on Oct. 16.
