U20 World Cup: Argentina aims for a seventh star against Morocco
Argentina has secured its spot in the final of the U20 World Cup, currently taking place in Chile, after a hard-fought victory over Colombia (1-0).
The South Americans overcame their neighbors thanks to a decisive strike from Inter Miami forward Mateo Silvetti in the 72nd minute. Colombia finished the match with ten men after Jhon Renteria was sent off in the 79th minute.
La Albiceleste will face Morocco in the final on Sunday, October 19 at 11 p.m. GMT, aiming to clinch a record-extending seventh title in this age category.
Holding the record for the most wins ahead of Brazil (5 titles), the nation of Diego Armando Maradona has already lifted the trophy six times—in 1979, 1995, 1997, 2001, 2005, and 2007. Argentina has only been defeated once in the final, falling to Seleção (1-0) in 1983.
This will be the third time Argentina meets an African side in the final, after overcoming Ghana (3-0) in 2001 and Nigeria (2-1) in 2005.
