Robert Lewandowski’s future at Barcelona has never been more uncertain, but it has always been clear that such a situation would arrive sooner rather than later.
Having signed for the Catalans when already well into his thirties, the player was never going to have a long career at Barcelona.
His output so far has been fantastic, but a combination of factors, including his age and recent injury record, leaves the door open.
Barcelona are yet to make a binding decision on the Polish star’s future and will likely do so only after the current season.
Given that his contract runs out in the summer, however, the player is already strongly being linked with potential future destinations.
Two potential destinations
As relayed earlier today, Atletico Madrid have emerged as serious candidates to sign the player next summer should he leave Barcelona.

SPORT, however, brings to light that Lewandowski’s agent, Pini Zahavi, has already met with AC Milan and that the Serie A-based club are willing to sign him if he leaves the club.
Further, Juventus have also registered their interest and remain attentive to his situation.
As it stands, word has it that Lewandowski wishes to stay in Europe and that he does not see a move to Saudi Arabia or the MLS as a realistic option.
His priority, however, is to stay at Barcelona even if it means settling for lower wages or a secondary role.
So far this season, the player has already scored four goals for Barcelona in La Liga despite making just three starts and averaging only 49 minutes per game.
He continues to overperform his xG, but an injury blow now sees him ruled out for vital games, including El Clasico, thus handing Hansi Flick a massive blow.
