Cowboys, 49ers suggested as possible trade partners for 81-sack edge rusher

The Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers could both use edge rusher help and that's why one analyst is suggesting both teams as possible trade partners for an edge rusher with 81 career sacks.

The Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers both need help along the edge.

The Cowboys foolishly traded Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers before the start of the season and their defense has not been the same, as expected, especially when it comes to getting after the quarterback. Dallas has 11 sacks through six games, and five of those came in one contest.

The 49ers have the second-fewest sacks in the NFL and won't have Nick Bosa for the rest of the season due to a torn ACL, so the only hope for San Fran to improve in that area is to make a trade to try and help fill the void.

Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox has an idea for both teams.

He suggests the 49ers and Cowboys as possible trade suitors for Cincinnati Bengals edge rusher Trey Hendrickson, who Knox believes will fetch a condition 2026 second-round pick.

If the Bengals are below .500 at the trade deadline, they're probably not getting back into the postseason mix. Given the way contract negotiations went this offseason, Hendrickson will probably be more than willing to walk in the spring.

Potential Suitors: Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers

Hendrickson is one of the league's elite edge rushers, so he's going to draw plenty of interest if he hits the trade block. The Bengals star has 81 career sacks, and led the NFL in that category last season with 17.5 en route to his first All-Pro nod.

Hendrickson was at odds with the Bengals throughout the offseason thanks to his desire for a new contract. However, the two sides never got something done and instead Hendrickson was given a revised contract and is set to hit free agency in 2026.

It goes without saying that the Bengals have to worry about Hendrickson leaving in free agency next offseason and should get something for him before that happens.

But Cincinnati's willingness to trade Hendrickson will depend upon where they sit at the deadline. If the absence of Joe Burrow continues to lead to the Bengals' season spiraling out of control, it's possible Hendrickson gets moved.

There have already been rumors that the 49ers have interest in Hendrickson, who is one of the few players out there who could replace Bosa's production, and general manager John Lynch has made it clear he's looking for EDGE help, so naming the 49ers as a possible suitor for Hendrickson makes sense.

The Cowboys also make sense, but only if Dallas is truly competing for a playoff spot, something the jury is still out on with the Cowboys sitting at 2-3-1.
